Superintendent's Message
Dear Spartanburg School District Four Family and Community Members:
On behalf of our Board of Trustees, I am pleased to welcome you to Spartanburg School District Four. We are grateful for the support of our families, churches, businesses, and other community members, as we seek to provide outstanding educational opportunities for our students.
We have high expectations for ourselves and our students. Students may expect to be taught and led by highly qualified staff members who demonstrate high integrity, a strong work ethic, and caring attitudes. We believe these traits are important to model for our students. In return, we expect our students to demonstrate respect, perseverance, and compassion for others. The development of these traits will serve our students well, as they move from classrooms to colleges and careers.
As our mission indicates, our purpose is to impact and empower students for the future. In order to accomplish this task, we emphasize academic rigor. This is evident in our students’ achievements. Spartanburg District Four has been recognized as having high achievement in South Carolina while maintaining one of the lowest per pupil expenditures in the state signifying our commitment to be fiscally responsible to the taxpayers of our district.
In addition to the emphasis on academics, we believe students should have opportunities to develop skills in the arts and athletics. We offer a variety of programs to meet our students’ interests with many activities beginning in the early grades. Our athletes in the upper grades participate in a wide variety of fall, winter, and spring sports. We offer outstanding performing and visual arts programs. Our Woodruff High School Marching Band consistently places among the top performing high schools in South Carolina. The visual arts program routinely produces visual arts students who are recognized for their outstanding work. Several have been awarded the Archibald Rutledge Scholarship, which recognizes the top students in South Carolina.
Students are more successful in achieving their educational goals in a calm, orderly learning environment. Therefore, we are committed to high expectations for strong discipline that is fairly and consistently administered. Our parents and community appreciate being able to send their children to schools where safety is a priority and where student discipline does not interfere with the teaching and learning process.
Spartanburg School District Four is successful because of the strong support teachers and administrators receive from parents and the community. We appreciate the collaborative spirit we enjoy, as we work together to accomplish our goals for our students. I encourage you to explore our website to become familiar with all District Four has to offer, and contact or visit us if we can ever be of service.
Sincerely,
Dr. W. Rallie Liston
Superintendent
