WOODRUFF PRIMARY SCHOOL

Woodruff Primary School is a K-2 SACS accredited school.  We serve students in kindergarten with a 3-4K and 5K program, first grade, and second grade. We have an on-site child development center and an adult education center offering GED courses.

There are 6 preschool teachers, 10 kindergarten classes, 11 first grade classes, and 11 second grade classes. Students receive fine arts in the areas of physical education, art, and music from certified teachers. Students visit the library and receive instruction from a media specialist. Speech services are provided by three speech clinicians. Resource and special education services are also available for those who are tested and qualify for those services. Those teachers are certified, experienced, and qualified.

The majority of Woodruff Primary School teachers have received their Master's degree or above. Regular professional development sessions are held throughout the year to insure up to date techniques and methods and research results are in practice. Five of our teacher have received National Certification.

After consideration of our application, the Exemplary Writing Committee visited Woodruff Primary School during the 2003-2004 school year. We were awarded the Exemplary Writing Award for 2003-2006.

This year Mrs. Jeter, a second grade teacher, applied for and was awarded a Literacy Grant. She purchased materials to use in her classroom for Reader's Theatre and to enhance comprehension and fluency skills. Last year several second grade teacher applied for and received grants. They were awarded $6,000 to use in the classrooms to improve literacy. The previous year kindergarten teachers received a grant to help incorporate more non-fiction text into the curriculum. In years past, several second grade teachers were awarded monies for literacy and purchased books for the classrooms.

Our school participates in the Accelerated Reader Program and the Pizza Hut Book-It program.  The Kiwanis offer their support to our Terrific Kid program. The parents, community, and faculty work together to provide the best learning environment possible for your children. Come by and see all of the great things happening at WOODRUFF PRIMARY SCHOOL.
