WPS Teachers Are Awarded Grants

Each year teachers look for sources for funding projects. These grants allow for extra materials and activities to enhance learning in the classroom. WPS has been fortunate to receive several grants each year.

Paula Jeter received a $2000 EIA Grant. This grant is called PERFORM for Placing Emphasis on Reading Fluency and on Reading With Meaning. She will use this grant to purchase Readers’ Theatre materials for her classroom. This activity will increase reading fluency and reading comprehension with her second graders.

Paula Jeter and Tammi Satterfield received $1000 from Junior League of Spartanburg. Their grant, “Now You Know the Truth” will be used to integrate more nonfiction book into the classroom.

Erin Patterson also received a Junior League of Spartanburg Grant to purchase a Marilyn Burn’s math library for her classroom. This will help her to integrate reading and math more effectively.

Betsy Alexander was awarded a $600 Junior League Grant for funding her SMILE project. Saving Memories by Inditing Life Experiences in first grade will give students an opportunity to take photos of routine and special events throughout the year. These photos will be placed in a memory book to provide inspiration for a writing experience. At the end of the year, the students will take home a Memory Book of photos and a collection of keepsake writings driven by interest and enthusiasm.

We know good things will happen in the classroom because of the initiative of these teachers with these grants. Our students benefit from their efforts. We are proud of all of them.
