A NOTE TO PARENTS |
| It
hardly seems possible, but the fall semester 2008 is just around the
corner. As we anticipate the up-coming school year, I want to share
several thoughts with you as the parent/guardian of students enrolled in
the classes I will be teaching. On this page, you will find listed the
supplies needed for tenth graders registered in English II-B and Seniors
enrolled in Honors British Literature, a college prep course. On the front
of my web page, you will find links to the syllabus for the respective
classes. By clicking on these links, you will discover course outcomes, a
grading distribution chart, course requirements, classroom rules and other
relevant information. For
English II-B students, this is a crucial year of preparation for taking
the High School Academic Proficiency (HSAP) Test. In order to earn a high
school diploma, students must pass this federally mandated test, a
requirement of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act.. I cannot stress
enough the importance of maintaining good attendance in order to master
the skills and information necessary for passing this test. Please
encourage your student to be in school and on time to class each day. Likewise,
students in British Literature are reminded that this is a college
preparatory honors course. Students will be required to write four to six
college style papers which count twenty-five (25%) of their grade. Course
material is presented primarily in lecture format and students must
be able to take good notes in order to keep pace with the amount of
material covered during the year. |
