g.     Composition notebook

h.      SMALL pack of colored pencils

j.        small notepad to keep up with daily assignments

k.      a dry erase marker (any color)

2. Beginning Class:

  1. Make sure you have ALL materials needed before class begins. ALL above materials need to be brought to class daily. No one will be able to go get materials or assignments once bell has rang.

B.     Always enter the class in a polite manner. There will be no crowding or gathering at the door at any time.

C.    Pencils will be sharpened before or after class time. If you need to throw away trash, please hold it until lecture or activity is over.

D.    When the bell rings, you will immediately begin “plug-in” or journal work that is posted for you. It will always be in the same spot for your class.

E.      There will always be an agenda posted on the board. This is to give you a brief outline of what you can expect in class that day.

3. “In” Class Time:

A.     When the signal is given, please come to attention quickly and be ready for instruction. I will have something to say.

B.     There will be a moderate amount of group activity in this class.  You are expected to gather into your proper group configurations as quickly and quietly as possible. This is to ensure you will have plenty of time to complete the assignment.

C.    When you have a question or comment to share, please raise your hand. When someone else is talking and you would like to say something, again, please raise your hand.

D.    You are expected to participate in class discussion and group work. There will be frequent group assignments and sharing. This cooperation is appreciated and counts toward your grade.

E.      When announcements are being made over the intercom or TV, you are expected to listen and remain quiet to ensure everyone hears what he/she needs to hear.  Failing to do so is not following directions and will result in a write up.

G.   When we have opportunities to pass papers in, you will carefully pass the papers to the person BESIDE you, facedown.  The teacher, or designated student, will collect the papers. Work collected in class from class time is considered daily work and is not accepted late.

H.    All bags and books are to be placed out of the isle! You may put them under your desk or in the lab area.

I.       You will have an in class folder to file all your test and important papers for review for later. BOOKS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE KEPT IN THE CLASSROOM!! Our room is NOT your locker!

J.       At the end of class, the teacher will dismiss you, not the bell.

4. Restroom rules:

A.                 With Pass: I will be giving you 1 pass per nine-weeks for the restroom. There is a bathroom “pass” jar up front with a sign-out sheet. You will need to place your completed pass in the jar and sign out, noting the time, and sign back in, with the time, when you return from the restroom. You are expected to go only to the place you HAVE permission. Remember it is your responsibility to get information you have missed while out of the room.

B.                 No Pass: If you do not have a pass, you must still sign in and out and follow above regulations. This is for your protection. One demerit will be issued according to the handbook for a restroom visit.

C.                Use the pass wisely. The passes are not transferable and do not carry over each nine weeks. If you have an exception to normal bathroom policy, I need to be informed by receiving a note from the school nurse, parent or your doctor. Such issues should already be on file with the school nurse.

D.                Water is important to the body. I will ONLY allow water bottles in class. Additional rules to this will be discussed and explained in class.

5. Homework:

A.     Assignments will be posted in the appropriate section on the board. It is your responsibility to notice and write down your homework assignments. Use the assignment book you purchased.

B.     Any work that is to be turned into the teacher must be placed into the appropriate “in-box” for your class PRIOR to the tardy bell. You will know what needs to be turned in by looking on the board when you enter class. Should your assignment not reach the “in-box” on time, you will not receive credit. It is your responsibility to turn assignments in on time.

C.    If you choose not to do assigned homework, depending on the homework assignment, you will be assigned to the Homework Center. 15 points will be deducted for each day it is late. Homework will count as a daily grade. Certain homework assignments cannot be made up, redone, or turned in late; therefore, you will not receive credit for that assignment if it is not on time. No exceptions.

6. Grading Policy:

A = 93 – 100      B = 85 – 92      C = 77 – 84      D = 70 – 76

F = 69 - below         I = Incomplete

A.     Grades are based on a point system. For example if there are only 40 possible points in an assignment, and you scored a 35, you divide 35/40 and multiply by 100 for the percent grade. It would be an 88%, which is a B.

B.     There are two categories of grades:

Major grades— all major grades count twice or more when noted. These are tests, labs, projects, journals, current events, and certain other designated assignments.

Daily grades all daily grades count once. This includes class work, quizzes, graded homework, notebooks, vocabulary, participation, cooperation and certain other designated assignments.

C.    A project will be assigned each nine weeks. They count as two major grades (4X).

D.    Your name must be on all papers and tests turned in or it will result in a 5-point deduction. Assignments that do not have your personal number on it will also result in points deducted.

E.      There will be an exam at the end of the 1st and 3rd nine-week period. These count for 25% of that nine-weeks grade.

F.      There will be an exam at the end of each semester (2nd and 4th nine-weeks) that counts for 25% of that semester grade.

G.   You will need to keep an organized notebook. You will have random notebook checks throughout the year. This is intended to help your grade, not hinder it.

H.   Journals will be graded; so, please keep up with the assignments so you will be prepared when the time comes. These are easy major grades! 15 points will be deducted each day it is late. Journals are not accepted after 2 days late! NO exceptions!

I.        Students are not to count on or ask about receiving extra credit. This will be up to the discretion of the teacher and the class will be notified of such an event.  The student should be responsible enough to stay on task.

7. Make-up Policy:

A.     In the event of an absence, it is your responsibility to obtain your assignments and make up missed work.

B.     If you do not request your work before you come back to class, there will be an absent folder located at the side of class. Your name will be on your sheets or test to pick up. Again, this is YOUR responsibility to pick up!

C.     I give at least a weeks notice before each test so that you may plan appropriately. If you are absent the day before a test OR out on the day of a test, you are still responsible for taking the test the day you return. It is counted late (-15) if you do not do so.

D.     If you are absent several days in a row, you have 5 days to get help and complete assignments.  If any missed work is not made up within five days of your return, a zero will be given for the work.  NO EXCEPTIONS!!  It is your responsibility to take tests and turn assignments in when due.

8. Laboratory Procedures

A.     Prior to the first lab activity, a set of guidelines will be sent home to be signed by the student and parent.

B.    There is a crate for each class for keeping lab manuals and journals in. Please make sure you keep yours in the appropriate crate for easy finding and correct grading purposes.  I am not responsible for misplaced folders and journals.

9. Other Important Procedures:

A.     If I am ever out, there will be a folder left on my desk with instructions for that day’s lesson and activities. Please, be kind and help any substitute with what you know is to be done. You will be familiar with how things run in class if this is ever a necessity. J

B.     Earthquake, tornados and fire drill procedures are posted in class.

C.    These classroom policies and procedures are subject to additions and changes if the need arises.

D.    When you need extra help please come see me!  I am here to help you succeed! J

E.      I want you to know that you are an important person.  Remember, when you think you can’t, I know you can! I believe in you! Let’s all work together and have a fun, successful year! J

J Please sign, acknowledging that you agree to the procedures and guidelines. Go over this with your parents/guardian. They may request a copy for their records as well. Both parties please sign on the appropriate lines. You will keep this copy in the front of your notebook for future reference. I will keep your guardian/parents returned sheet in your folder. They need to only return the requested part. Thank you! J
