District Four young scholars enjoy an academically rich environment while preparing for a lifetime of learning. Working with highly trained teachers who demonstrate a love of their subjects and students, our young scholars develop critical thinking and questioning skills to prepare them for living productively in a global community.
Our staff and administration are proud of the rigorous and challenging academic programming in place at all schools in the district. The Advanced Placement offerings at Woodruff High are excellent, especially considering the small size of the school district, with eleven courses including Calculus, U.S. History, World History, English Literature, Biology, Art History, 3-D Studio Art, 2-D Studio Art, English Language, Drawing and Chemistry. Honors classes are available in the academic core courses as well as an outstanding vocational course curriculum through the R.D. Anderson Vocational Center. Students at Woodruff Middle School, who meet high levels of performance on standardized testing, are identified and encouraged to enroll in the academic advancement track of honors coursework beginning in the sixth grade. All middle school students are guided in their learning by teacher teams, addressing the total academic needs of the student across the curriculum.
Students at all grade levels are recognized for their academic improvement and achievement through published honor rolls, classroom level and school level academic awards programs, Most Improved Student and academic banquets, after-school Homework Centers, Accelerated Reader programs, WMS Battle of the Brains, Junior Scholars, WHS Junior Marshals, WES and WMS Top Five Students recognitions, and WHS Top Ten Students. Parents are invited as partners in education through Family Nights of Reading, Science, Math, and the Arts in addition to many other activities involving families in the schools.
Academic honor activities and organizations such as the WMS Beta Club, WHS National Honor Society, WHS National Art Honor Society, and WHS Future Business Leaders of America encourage students to strive for excellence in their academic work with grades as one of several criteria for membership. District Four educators are among the most experienced and well-educated teaching professionals in South Carolina, who consistently rank at the top of the state in those areas of certification. We are proud to offer your child an excellent level of academic challenge in state-of-the-art facilities, providing quality and personalized mentor relationships between teachers and students.
