Student leaders in the schools of District Four grow to understand the value of social responsibility through a variety of activities beginning in the primary grades and continuing through graduation at the high school. Our school community is strengthened by its respect for diversity and united by its dedication to promoting good character and strong leadership skills in our young people.
Character education is a priority with annual character emphasis programs at all schools, bringing in former students and community members as positive role models who are now leaders in their chosen career fields. Clubs and organizations for students emphasize caring and concern for others through strong community service components and striving to “make a difference” in the lives of others. Clubs at each of the schools strongly encourage and honor community citizenship and service involvement on the part of our students.
Strong leadership skills are emphasized through active student government organizations and many clubs at each of the schools. Club members are encouraged to participate as officers and committee chairs to foster leadership skills. Special school-wide recognition programs, as well as state and national affiliated clubs, honor the efforts and service of their aspiring young student leaders. All schools in the district strive to enhance positive character and leadership skill development through programs such as Student of the Month, Terrific Kids, Student Councils, student publications and news shows, and Junior Achievement. Varied service opportunities are readily available through community service components in clubs such as the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Junior Beta Club, Habitat for Humanity, Teens for Christ, Ebony Club, and Peer Mediators. School District Four has an active Officer in the Schools program that works with students in developing conflict resolution skills and supporting activities in the classrooms that promote character development.
