The developing athlete in District Four has the opportunity for involvement in a wide range of athletic and physical fitness activities, a vital part of each student's educational experience. Choosing to participate in competitive physical activities and teams, the student athlete experiences a tremendous sense of accomplishment in challenging his or her physical potential while developing sportsmanship, a sound work ethic, and close relationships with dedicated coach/mentors.
Our district is proud to offer a diverse athletic program under the direction of Athletic Director, Mr. Flynn Harrell. High School League Division IIA competitive team experiences are available at the secondary level in a wide array of sports to include football, baseball, softball, golf, boys and girls basketball, soccer, cheerleading, boys and girls tennis, boys and girls track and cross country, wrestling, and volleyball. Special interest athletic organizations, such as the WHS Step Team and WHS Dance Team, are also available to secondary students. Junior varsity teams in most of the above sports are provided to encourage interest at the middle school level in physical activity and for continued involvement in later years at the varsity level.
Broad-based exposure to a wide variety of sports activities are provided in our physical education course programming, beginning in the primary grades through high school. Our physical education courses in the schools emphasize sportsmanship and fair play, while developing the individual student’s athletic potential. We strive to provide enjoyable learning experiences in physical education courses that will hopefully foster an appreciation of positive health habits today and later in the student’s life. The Presidential Physical Fitness program within our P.E. classes helps to serve as a marker of student progress through the school years, while encouraging students to improve their fitness levels. The annual school-wide Kickball Tournament at Woodruff Elementary School and annual Field Days are not only healthy and fun, but provide our students with wonderful memories! School District Four also works cooperatively with the Woodruff Downtown Recreation Center that provides extended after-school sports activities in basketball, football, cheerleading and soccer.
