The student artist in School District Four has the opportunity to grow and develop through a wide range of creative offerings within our fine arts programming. In addition to the district’s school day curriculum, students have convenient access to many after school programs and private instruction through the local colleges in the area.
We are proud to offer award winning and broad-based visual arts and music courses in the beautiful new William L. Howell III Fine Arts Wing at Woodruff High School. In the visual arts, instruction begins early at Woodruff Primary School and continues with increased offerings at each level through high school. Gifted art programs begin in the third grade and continue through the twelfth grade. The National Junior Art Honor Society involves students at Woodruff Middle School and continues at Woodruff High School with the National Art Honor Society. Beginning in the ninth grade, students may elect to specialize in two or three-dimensional visual arts studies, culminating in four Advanced Placement course offerings with A.P. Two-Dimensional Design, A.P. Three-Dimensional Design, A.P. Drawing, and A.P. Art History. Secondary students are very successful in their participation in local, state and national art exhibitions and competitions, garnering numerous past recognitions for their high artistic achievement.
Music courses in District Four are exciting as students may choose choral or instrumental offerings. Choral music begins at the primary school and continues through to twelfth grade. Instrumental band begins in the fifth grade at the elementary school and continues through to marching, concert and jazz bands at Woodruff High School. Band offerings are in place for the student at Woodruff Middle School that also include the steel drum band and a new percussion course offering. WHS is proud to offer an award winning jazz ensemble and girls ensemble for young musicians. The Woodruff High School Marching Cadets are very active in competitive events, and our WHS choral groups are also very active in community performance events. Gifted music programs begin in the third grade and continue through the high school grades. Our bands compete in the AA school competitive division winning many regional and state honors.
